Photovoltaic System & Energy Storage
Sustainability is more than a promise to us. In May 2022, we commissioned a large photovoltaic system with modern energy storage. This allows us to cover up to 90% of our electricity needs in summer and up to 50% in winter using renewable energy. As a result, a significant part of the energy that makes your stay comfortable comes from clean, sustainable sources.
Moving Away from Fossil Fuels
Pellet Heating & Solar Thermal Energy
Also in 2022, we fully converted our heating system to renewable energy. Our former fossil-fuel-based system was replaced by a modern pellet heating system with condensing technology, using renewable raw materials to provide cozy warmth while significantly improving our carbon footprint.
The system is supported by a large solar thermal installation, which uses the power of the sun to generate heat and further reduce our overall energy consumption.

Sustainability Through Regional Products
For us, sustainability is not only about energy and technology, but also about conscious enjoyment. At breakfast, we focus wherever possible on regional and sustainably sourced products, while keeping packaging waste to an absolute minimum.
Our breakfast eggs come from the farm next door. The aromatic Kijami coffee is supplied by a small private roastery in Witten and imported directly from Tanzania without intermediaries – fair, transparent and full of character.
And of course, the well-deserved evening beer is a local one: a Fiege, brewed by the traditional, family-run Moritz Fiege Brewery in Bochum.
